It’s a good thing Marcia Snyder was paying attention when the numbers were drawn in last week’s Together We Rise charity raffle at the BrandSource Convention. This week’s Convention21 may well have been the most eagerly anticipated BrandSource event in many years, and quite possibly ever for some people. BrandSource members bid fellow dealers, their vendor partners and AVB staff adieu yesterday as the four-day Convention21 came to a close. AVB Merchandising VP Chad Evans helped kick off Day 3 of Convention21 with a combination marketplace update and locker room pep talk that acknowledged members’ travails but lauded their record-breaking accomplishments. AVB picked up where it left off before the pandemic by inducting the latest crop of Hall of Fame honorees on Sunday. The BrandSource Dealer of the Year awards are presented to 14 members for their continued support of the group and its direct suppliers. Whirlpool may not have made it to its Mixology cocktail reception Saturday night, but the vendor was certainly there in spirit — and spirits. There would be no Convention21 without the support of AVB’s valued exhibitors and show sponsors. AVB/BrandSource is launching two expansive new programs to help members maintain their record-breaking momentum in the marketplace. One of the most challenging aspects of running a retail business is finding and hiring the right people. This week, we’re digging into our pockets again, this time to assist the foster care support group’s Family Fellowship initiative for college-bound youth. After leading the industry with acclaimed virtual shows last summer and March, the AVB/BrandSource family is together again in person for the first time since the 2020 Summit. Serta Simmons Bedding will have a stepped-up presence as this week’s 2021 BrandSource Convention. BrandSource is expanding its servicer support with a first-time series of service-specific programming at this week’s Convention21. AVB’s commitment to the furniture category will be showing this weekend, when BrandSource’s 2021 Convention rolls into Nashville with the largest contingent of home furnishings dealers in the group’s history. I have been to upwards of 25 Conventions and Summits in my 15 years as a BrandSource member. This month many of us will return in-person to the BrandSource Convention, where we will see many introductions of new products and several updates of past winners. BrandSource’s favorite late-night huckster, Ole CD, is back and burning up the Internet. AVB/BrandSource will resume its calendar of on-site national shows beginning this August with the 2021 Convention.Luck Be a Lady
