Experts share the ABCs of proprietary POS system

Why do independent retailers need a connected point-of-sale system? And more fundamentally, what is it? 

BrandSource’s Rich Lindblom, POS business development manager, led a session at Convention 2024 to explain the basics of SYNC, the proprietary connected point-of-sale system. 

SYNC is a cloud-based, members-only point-of-sale system that can sell products, parts and accessories, create service orders and more. Fully integrated with sister AVB Marketing platforms like LINQ and ALTA, it is stable, secure and designed for independent retailers. 

Simple and Secure

One of the best features of SYNC is its user-friendly interface. 

“When we built SYNC, we said it has to be easy,” Lindblom said. “Dealers have gone live on SYNC with no training­ — that’s how easy it is.”

In addition, users can depend on SYNC’s stability. There’s never been an outage longer than 30 minutes, and there’s been zero loss of data in two years, he said. 

What Does It Do? 

Lindblom said there are really only two ways to make more money: Sell more stuff or make more money on the stuff you sell. SYNC helps you grow sales by streamlining what shows up on your website. For instance: 

  • Keeping your website current by loading updates as they’re released by vendors. 
  • Eliminating overselling by updating the online product catalog instantly as items are sold, so your staff always knows what’s available. 
  • Driving more traffic to your website and your store by pushing your available inventory to your AVB website, improving your search rankings and putting your products in front of the customers who are looking for them. 

In addition, extended warranties can be mapped directly to SYNC, Lindblom said. Some current users have reported selling 25% to 50% more extended warranties with SYNC. 

Sell-through is another key benefit, he said. On average, 70% of sell-throughs go unclaimed every month, Lindblom said. SYNC solves that problem for members who claim sell-through for Frigidaire, Electrolux and Maytag/Whirlpool. Simply by opting in, members will get their sell-throughs without lifting a finger.
