Former Haier and Whirlpool exec Yannick Fierling will take the reins of Electrolux in January.

Fierling, who most recently led Haier’s European business as CEO, will succeed Jonas Samuelson as president/CEO of Electrolux Group on Jan. 1.

Samuelson announced his intention to step down last spring after nine years in the corner office, amid a challenging stretch for the industry and the company. “I felt that early next year is a good time to hand over to a successor who can put all energy into leading this great company into the next phase during the coming years,” he said.

A mechanical engineer by training, Fierling has more than 20 years’ experience in the appliance industry, including nine years with Haier and four years at Whirlpool, where he held several senior positions within the company’s European and global operations.

He will formally join Electrolux on Oct. 1 and assume the top job after a three-month transitional period.

“Yannick is a very experienced leader with a solid background in the appliance industry,” said Electrolux board chair Torbjörn Lööf. “In his latest assignment, he successfully led Haier’s development in Europe. His visionary leadership in developing business and people, together with a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship and a sense of urgency approach, will be very valuable on our journey making Electrolux Group an even stronger global player in the appliance industry.”

He added: “The board wants to reinforce and accelerate the strengths of Electrolux Group by bringing in new perspectives. We are convinced that Yannick has the right background, insights and experience, as well as the drive and determination to take the company forward.”

Fierling, 53, said in turn he is “grateful for the confidence of the board and feel very excited about this opportunity. Having spent many years in the household appliances industry, it is hard to find a more energizing and inspiring role. I am really looking forward to engaging with the Electrolux Group team and in developing and positioning the group in the years to come.”

Fierling is a French national with two master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from France and the U.S. and will be based at Electrolux headquarters in Stockholm.
