A highlight of the recent 2024 Summit was the announcement of this year’s AVB BrandSource Scholarship Award winners.

Colin and mom Jessica Burzycki, whose dad Keith founded Keith’s Appliances.

As part of a longstanding effort to support higher education, the BrandSource bestows $20,000 in academic achievement awards annually. Among this year’s four winners is Colin Burzycki, whose mom, Jessica Burzycki, owns Keith’s Appliances, a New England Appliance Group (NEAG) member in Mystic, Conn.

Burzycki is currently finishing up his senior year at Fitch High School in Mystic, where he is enrolled in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The program maintains rigorous academic and personal standards, and will confer a full IB diploma to Burzycki in June.

Burzycki plans to attend Coastal Carolina College in the fall, where he will enroll in the school’s AACSB-accredited business program and follow a pre-law track. He ultimately hopes to earn a law degree and practice his profession at a large firm.

“I want to help people and businesses who need, but don’t always get, quality legal representation,” the scholarship winner said. “I am passionate about this field because I see and hear about so many instances where good representation could have either prevented or changed an unfortunate or unjust outcome.”

He added, “I find legal work fascinating, complex and challenging, and am excited to pursue a career in law.”

The school bus dropped Burzycki off at his mom’s store every day after school, where he would remain until closing.

Burzycki will spend the summer working at the family’s restaurant to save up for college expenses, and is grateful for the assist from the scholarship. “This award not only helps offset some of the expenses of college, but it also motivates me even more to continue working hard to achieve my goals,” he said.

Burzycki also gave a shout-out to AVB and his family. “What AVB BrandSource does for my family’s business is just incredible,” he said. “While I know this award recognizes my personal achievements, it also reflects what a great job my parents have done in getting me this far.”

Take a Bow

Joining Burzycki this year are fellow AVB BrandSource Scholarship recipients Serenity Guerrero of Christie’s Appliance & Mattress CompanyKathryn Watson, whose dad Jeff owns Watson Furniture Flooring Appliances; and ProSource’s Isabel Janka, whose dad Bill owns Mission Audio Video.

The goal of the AVB BrandSource scholarships is to provide financial assistance to the children of BrandSource members, AVB affiliates like NEAG and their staffs to help offset higher education expenses. Four winners are chosen annually from dozens of submissions, with each receiving $5,000 toward enrollment the following fall. Eligibility now extends beyond those attending four-year colleges to include students enrolled in tech and trade school programs.

AVB BrandSource congratulates Colin Burzycki and all our 2024 scholarship winners for their hard work and achievements, and wish them the best as they embark on their higher education.
