Miele will bring its production might to U.S. shores next year.
First North American factory to open next year

BrandSource lux appliance partner Miele is Alabama bound.
That’s where the German manufacturer will be locating its first North American production facility, which is expected to be up and running by the end of 2024.
The company chose the city of Opelika as the site of the plant, which will initially produce ovens and ranges for the U.S., Canadian and Mexican markets. The factory will employ 150 workers during that first phase of production, and is expected to expand its staff as the facility adds matching ventilation hoods to its production lines.
Miele praised the Alabama burgh for its skilled labor pool, access to highly-qualified engineering graduates from nearby Auburn University, its proximity to potential suppliers and easy access to Interstate 85, a major Southeast artery, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
For the past 40 years the manufacturer has maintained a U.S. presence through Miele USA, its Princeton, N.J.-based sales and service division. It said adding a manufacturing footprint in America, its second largest market after Germany, would provide distribution efficiencies, reduce the environmental impact of importing and free up capacity at its three main cooking appliance plants in Europe.
“This reduces the delivery time from up to ten weeks today to just a few days in a customer-friendly way, and also reduces the impact on the climate,” said Dr. Stefan Breit, executive director, technology at parent company Miele Group.
“Miele is one the world’s most iconic home appliance brands, and we’re thrilled to have this great company select Alabama as the home for its first U.S. manufacturing facility,” added Alabama Governor Kay Ivey. “Miele is a wonderful addition to our state’s business community, and I look forward to the day when its new Opelika facility is turning out first-class appliances.”
Family-owned Miele was founded in Herzebrock, Germany in 1899 as a maker of cream separation equipment, and today sells its “timelessly elegant” kitchen, laundry and floor care products in 50 countries. Its guiding principle of “Immer besser,” or “Forever better,” has helped Miele establish a worldwide reputation for quality, innovation and value.
In the U.S., Miele USA supports the brand with 10 company-owned “Experience Centers” across the country, and a formal partnership with BrandSource that was forged in 2020.
Miele Group currently operates 15 appliance production facilities worldwide, including eight in Germany and one each in Austria, China, the Czech Republic, Poland and Romania.
