Emerald owners Adam and Octavia Stevens at their new Corcoran, Calif., store

Emerald Appliance brings a sparkle to BrandSource

BrandSource’s Pac Rim Region congratulates Adam and Octavia Stevens of Emerald Appliance in Corcoran, Calif. on the opening of their new storefront.

The couple recently celebrated the opening of their new store, leaving behind a smaller location that came with the business they bought in 2017.

Stevens had been working as a service technician for nearly 25 years before he decided to venture out on his own and purchase a long-established servicer, Emerald Appliance Repair. Based in the town of Clovis, the business represented a golden opportunity for him and his family to begin a new, independent life in California’s beautiful San Joaquin Valley.

“This has always been my dream, of owning a business where I could help people with needed repairs and assist them with buying new appliances,” he said.

The sellers were ready to retire, and had “built a great reputation through honest sales and dependable service,” he said. “We are building upon their reputation.”

The timing, however, led to some initial ups and downs. “We opened our original location a few months before COVID hit, without knowing what to expect,” he said. “It has been somewhat challenging, but we hung in there and have survived and grown the business — thanks to God.”

The new showroom is about an hour south of the original business and features a full line of Speed Queen, Frigidaire and GE appliances, among other brands, along with pre-owned and refurbished units. Under their business plan, Octavia minds the store while Adam performs field service throughout a wide swath of the San Joaquin Central Valley.

Jr., while his wife Octavia and their daughter Aurora stand to his left. Members of the extended Stevens family and local Chamber of Commerce were also on hand for the grand opening.

It’s a Family Affair

The Stevenses have six children who pitch in on service calls, deliveries, chores or whatever is needed to support the family business. “The kids are learning at a young age how to work hard and interact with adults and are picking up life lessons that will serve them well in whatever they decide to do,” Stevens said.
