Appliance tech saluted by 2023 consumer electronics show

Each year the CES Innovation Awards, presented by America’s largest consumer tech trade show, honor products and their manufacturers for outstanding design and engineering.

High among the list of honorees for CES 2023 are Samsung and LG, which respectively won 46 and 28 of the coveted awards. And while most were garnered for audio and video innovation, a respectable selection of home appliances also received their due.

Here’s a rundown of the judges’ 2023 picks for most innovative new home appliances from LG and Samsung:

LG Electronics

LG’s CordZero A9 All-in-One Tower with Steam Mop

PuriCare Aero Furniture: Both innovative and multifunctional, LG’s new tabletop air purifiers blur the line between home furnishings and home appliances with a versatile, modern design and 360 degrees of air purification.

CordZero A9 All-in-One Tower with Steam Mop: LG describes its new floorcare product as “the first stick vacuum that not only offers cordless steam mopping, but also keeps your stick vacuum clean and charged in one sleek tower.”

WashTower Compact: LG’s vertical laundry solution provides increased capacity while lowering the height, compared to current 24-inch stacked washers and dryers. Features include AI DD (direct drive) technology that automatically optimizes the washer’s wash motions and Dual Inverter Heat Pump for enhanced energy efficiency.

Samsung

Bespoke AI laundry line: The Bespoke AI washer automatically identifies fabric types and dirt levels, optimizing its performance accordingly, while its companion dryer uses sensors and algorithms to measure the moisture content of clothes, adjusting drying time and temperature to seamlessly optimize drying cycles.

Samsung’s SmartThings Energy app

SmartThings Energy App: Though clearly not an appliance, Samsung’s mobile energy app can help consumers reduce their appliances’ energy consumption. Based on users’ habits, SmartThings Energy recommends ways to be more energy efficient and lets consumers easily monitor and manage the energy usage not just of their Samsung appliances but of their entire home.

The Innovation Awards are sponsored by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), the host and organizer of CES. CES 2023 will be held January 5-8 at the Las Vegas Convention Center and associated sites throughout town.
