Young Professional Tori Reece takes the reins at Reece’s Maytag

Since 1991, Don Reece has been running Reece’s Maytag Home Appliance Center, the business he founded in Lafayette, Ind.
Now after 30 years, his daughter Tori Reece has taken over as the head of operations and is running the business. Now it is Tori who has her sights on the next 30 years of continuing the family tradition of excellent customer service that Reece’s is renowned for.
She has worked at the company for the past seven years and is ready to take on the challenges of a small family business and a rapidly evolving marketplace. While her father still comes in occasionally to help with any issues that may pop up, it is now Reece who is tasked with heading up the day-to-day operation of the business, including sales, marketing, inventory and personnel.
She is even known to jump in and help unload product off the trucks when needed.
Tori’s brother Quinn is also an integral part of the company, working alongside her as the head of delivery and covering logistics for the store.
“My father was really devoted to the business for the past 30 years,” Reece said. “My brother and I often joke that he in fact has three children, and the business is his favorite!” Reece said she hopes to carry her father’s passion and dedication forward for the next 30 years.
Although she has no major plans to change the direction of the business, she is working hard to update systems and processes. “The biggest transition I am working on is a new POS system,” she said. “Ours is very old and needs to be brought up to date.”
Outside the store, Reece balances her work responsibilities with those of a single mother raising a teenager.
In addition to the company’s membership in BrandSource, Reece has also been actively involved in the group’s under-40 Young Professionals (YP) organization for just over three years. More than anything else, she said, she enjoys the camaraderie and support that her YP peers provide. “I have made a lot of friends,” she said, “and it is so nice to be able to call or text someone with a question they can relate to.”
“Sometimes,” she added, “it’s just nice to vent to someone who has likely gone through some of the same issues.”
Reece also has a real appreciation for the YP seminars and educational sessions she has attended over the years. “I have picked up on a lot of information on the digital realm we are living in,” she said. “It has really shown me that there are lots of ways to work smarter, not necessarily harder.”
Amanda Nelson, who is Reece’s account executive at AVB Marketing, holds Reece in high esteem. “She is extremely hardworking and dedicated to her business,” Nelson said. “Tori is knowledgeable and passionate not only about the products she sells, but also about her family and the family business. She’s an amazing asset to the Young Professionals, as well as the Maytag Channel, providing expertise and mentorship to both groups.”
