A contingent of Speed Queen volunteers spent a week doing their part at a renowned animal retreat last month.

The season-of-giving visit was to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah, a home-between-home for some 1,600 rescued dogs and cats, horses, birds, rabbits, potbellied pigs, farm animals and assorted wildlife.

The hands-on help was part of an ongoing affiliation between the animal welfare organization and Speed Queen, which became the nonprofit’s official laundry partner last fall. Together they are working toward realizing Best Friends’ goal of ending the killing of animals in all U.S. shelters by 2025.

“From product development and sales to marketing and manufacturing, Speed Queen is a brand made up of animal lovers,” explained Cody Masluk, vice president and general manager of Speed Queen residential, in announcing the partnership. “I’m excited to lend our support to Best Friends, an organization that closely mirrors our values as a company to make a difference each day.”

Besides sending teams of employees to the Sanctuary, the nation’s largest no-kill animal shelter, Speed Queen will also assist in meeting Best Friends’ laundry equipment needs at facilities across the country.

“Make no mistake, this is a true partnership. Speed Queen is committed to getting its hands dirty and doing all we can to help animals and join the Best Friends charge of no-kill in the United States by 2025,” Masluk said.

“We could not be more thankful for Speed Queen and this partnership,” said Candi Maciel, Director of Corporate Partnerships for Best Friends. “We’re always in need of fresh blankets and beds for pets in our care, and now we’ll be able to ensure that with our brand-new machines and their support.”

To date, Best Friends has helped reduce the number of animals killed in shelters from an estimated 17 million per year to about 347,000. With lifesaving programs across the country, along with the no-kill Animal Sanctuary, Best Friends works collaboratively with a national network of more than 3,300 shelter and animal welfare partners and community members to “Save Them All.”

Ripon, Wis.-based Speed Queen was established 1908 and has since evolved into Alliance Laundry Systems, a world leader in commercial laundry solutions that are also available for the home.
