Whirlpool’s innovative Top Load Washer with 2-in-1 Removable Agitator has been lauded by Popular Science in the publication’s annual “Best of What’s New Awards” as an industry first.

The washer, model WTW8127LC, features a multi-motion agitator post that can be removed to accommodate large laundry loads, leaving an impeller in place.

The awards program recognizes breakthrough products and technologies that represent significant advancements within specific categories. Whirlpool’s washer, which launched earlier this year, was honored within the Home category.

“The ongoing recognition of our latest laundry innovation continues to humble us,” said Nelly Martinez, senior brand manager at Whirlpool. “Earning this award from a prestigious program like Popular Science’s ‘Best of What’s New Awards’ is very exciting. We create these laundry machines with the goal of making caring for loved ones easier on our customers, and it reminds us why we come to work every day when we get recognition like this.”

The Popular Science nod is the latest in a string of kudos for the 2-in-1 washer, which also earned a TWICE VIP Award in the Major Appliances, Laundry category; Fast Company’s Innovation by Design Award; and Good Housekeeping’s 2021 Cleaning Award for “Most Innovative Washing Machine.”

The product launched last spring at Lowe’s and distribution has since been extended to independent dealers and other national chains. It carries a suggested retail price of $1,299.
