A Thanksgiving Day reflection

By Todd Hall, Duerden’s Appliance & Mattress

On the occasion of Thanksgiving, Todd Hall, president of Duerden’s Appliance & Mattress in aptly named Bountiful, Utah, shared his thoughts on gratefulness with YSN. We think he speaks for many of us in addressing the true meaning of the holiday.

Sale weekends come and go, but good relationships are forever.  We’re going to approach Thanksgiving weekend with an attitude of gratitude.

  • I’m so grateful for our customers who shop locally and give our family business the chance to be part of their home.
  • I’m grateful for our team of employees who work their hearts out to give the customer the best experience in some challenging times.
  • I’m grateful that we have some key vendors that saw early on that our independent channel could thrive in this environment and leaned into us, even as others walked away.
  • I’m grateful for our flexibility and ability to change just as quickly as our environment.   We may not always be right, but we can always be decisive and can implement a plan in the time it takes a big-box store to form a planning committee.
  • I’m grateful for BrandSource leadership and staff that always put us first and seem to think a few steps ahead of the market.

Lastly, I’m thankful I’ve been allowed to be part of such an amazing family of dealers. Eight years ago, when I was crazy enough to spend our life savings buying an appliance store, BrandSource helped me get up and running. I was never treated like the new guy and was always welcomed. Now I consider my fellow dealers some of my very best friends and appreciate so much how we all have each other’s backs.

Have a great Thanksgiving and let those around you know what you’re most grateful for.
