- Best Buy has acquired Yardbird, an outdoor furniture company.
- The business will continue to operate semi-autonomously.
- The deal follows last summer’s outdoor expansion at Best Buy.
After dipping its toes in the outdoor furniture category last summer, Best Buy has decided to take the plunge.
The last remaining national CE chain has acquired Yardbird, a Minnesota-based direct-to-consumer seller of premium outdoor products. Founded in 2016 by the father and son team of Bob and Jay Dillon, the company operates seven showrooms across the country and an e-commerce site, Yardbird.com, which carry everything from dining sets and lounge seating to fire tables and accessories.
Under terms of the deal, Yardbird will continue to operate its physical and online stores under the leadership of the Dillons, while Best Buy will begin to integrate the company’s assortment into its own website over the coming months. Both businesses are based in Minneapolis, although Yardbird’s showrooms can be found as far west as Denver and as far East as Philadelphia.
“For years we’ve helped our customers elevate their living spaces — from offices to kitchens to living rooms — and this exciting partnership will only create even more opportunities for Best Buy customers to amp up their outdoor living space,” the box chain said in a statement.
Aside from its “incredible selection of outdoor furniture,” Best Buy said it was also attracted by Yardbird’s commitment to sustainability, as expressed thought its use of eco-friendly materials, recycled plastic and minimal packaging material, and its partnership with carbonfund.org to help offset its carbon footprint.
Yardbird joins an expanded selection of patio fare at Best Buy, including grills and outdoor ovens from such brands as Lynx, Traeger, Char-Broil, Weber and Ooni, plus an expanded lineup of fire pits, heaters, furniture and bistro lighting by Pure Garden, Flame Genie, Solo Stove, Walker Edison, Philips, Cree Lighting and more.
So far, the assortment is limited to BestBuy.com and select flagship stores.
