Once upon a time, Black Friday sales were limited to the day after Thanksgiving.

Eventually promotional creep extended throughout the month, which has since been renamed Black November.

Today, even the day after Halloween has fallen by the wayside as the unofficial start of holiday doorbuster season.

One of the first retailers out of the promotional starting gate is Best Buy, which kicked off its initial round of Black Friday deals last week. Staged in successive waves leading up to the “real” sale starting Nov. 19, the tech chain’s angle is to guarantee its pre-Black Friday sale prices through Nov. 26 or reimburse the difference should they go lower.

This week’s “Early Deals Event,” ending on Halloween, includes the usual assortment of TVs, laptops, and video gaming accessories, along with a seemingly lone major appliance: a 28-cubic-foot French door fridge from Samsung. The model, RF28T5021SR/AA, features an auto-fill water pitcher, a fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish, and carries the “Black Friday price” of $1,600, a savings, Best Buy says, of $380.

As for TVs, Samsung and LG vie for promotional prominence among the 101 discounted models, starting with Samsung’s 55-inch The Frame 4K LED, now selling for $1,000, a $500 discount. For its part, LG’s top entry is a 65-inch 90 Series QNED mini-LED 4K set that’s been reduced by $400 to $1,600.
