Identical twins Tam Schons and Pam Cooreman of Tracy, Minn., launched their scratch-and-dent appliance business, Wheels & Heels Appliance and More, in November 2019. But due to the onset of COVID-19 in the weeks that followed, their plan to expand into new appliances had to wait until this past October, when they received their first shipment of fresh product. Since then, they have received seven semi-loads with an average of 52 units per load. Talk about making up for lost time!
The store was born after Pam, who also serves as mayor of Tracy, brainstormed business opportunities with Tam, who runs a small accounting business. The pair happened upon appliances and decided to incorporate Pam’s use of a wheelchair into their new company’s name. Along with Tam’s husband Scott, the sisters presently operate a single location that carries all kitchen and laundry categories, and continue to do a big business in discounted scratch-and-dent merchandise.
As mayor of the town, Pam often promotes the community and assists local businesses through her personal Facebook page. Leveraging her digital prowess, Wheels & Heels offers virtual demos to familiarize customers with a product before making the drive to the store. Personal appointments can also be scheduled outside of regular business hours.
As a new business and newer BrandSource member, Tam and Pam are looking to AVB Marketing to assist with a transactional website and are also exploring such group resources as financing and insurance.
Commented Scott, “I think we are off to a good start.” We’d have to agree!
