Tim Odland’s daughters are mainstays of The Mattress Store’s print ads.

Looking to do some traveling after college, Washington State native Tim Odland moved to Hawaii in 1988 and wound up spending 16 years in Maui.
After spending time in the island’s restaurant industry, Odland opened a jewelry store in Lahaina in 1995. The district was booming with tourism, and his Front Street shop, located by the ocean, specialized in local artists and jewelry from around the world. The formula worked, and four years later he opened a second Front Street store that would soon be followed by a third location.
But Odland’s burgeoning jewelry business quickly lost its luster after Sept. 11, 2001. Away in Bangkok on a buying trip, he admittedly failed to foresee the longer-term impact of the terror attacks. “I probably didn’t fully comprehend what had happened at that moment, or how it would affect the entire world, including our little island in the middle of the Pacific,” he said. With tourism at a standstill but the rents still high, he was eventually forced to close all three stores and move back to the mainland.
Odland returned to his hometown of Port Orchard, Wash., and, ever the businessman, saw a new opportunity in bedding. In November 2019 he answered the community’s need for a mattress store by opening one, which he aptly named The Mattress Store. And just as he had with his jewelry business, he would soon expand to a second location, this one 25 minutes away in nearby Gig Harbor.
Enter BrandSource, which Odland described as the perfect fit to help him grow his brand and business in the area. “I like all the options that are available with BrandSource and I am looking forward to growing our relationship in the future,” he said. Those options include a state-of-the-art e-commerce site, which is currently under construction by AVB Marketing.
What sets The Mattress Store apart from other bedding sellers? “We really focus on customer service and on being sleep specialists,” Odland said. “We live, work and service our neighbors, friends, family and community.”
BrandSource is delighted to welcome Odland and his family on board, and the group looks forward to seeing what comes next for this insuppressible entrepreneur.
