ProSource Launches Industry’s First Lighting Tech Certification Program

By Alan Wolf, YSN

AVB affiliate ProSource, the nation’s largest audio, video and integration buying group, has launched the first lighting technology certification (LTC) program in the industry.

The exclusive program, developed by educator, author and lighting designer David Warfel  and Light Can Help You partner Mark Langston, is designed to help buying group members tap into the $44 billion lighting category. Lighting fixtures are fundamentally changing the nature of the integration and controls businesses, ProSource said, and its industry-first initiative will help the membership “accelerate growth in the category.”

“ProSource and Light Can Help You teamed up to create and deliver an incredible educational opportunity that is 100-percent focused on the CI channel,” explained Warfel. “We looked at all the great educational opportunities out there and could not find any training that addressed how to go to market as an integrator selling lighting.”

Created in collaboration with the group’s Lighting Committee, the ProSource Lighting Technology Certification program features custom content by Warfel and Langston and is supported by the group’s vendor partners, including American Lighting, Coastal Source, Colorbeam, DMF Lighting, Savant, Vantage, and WAC Lighting.

The LTC provides Level 1 Certification through ProSource University, a proprietary learning management system (LMS) platform introduced earlier this year, and features the following modules:

M0: ProSource Lighting Technology Certification

M1: Lighteracy 101 – Client Foundations

M2: Lighteracy 201 – Integrator Foundations

M3: Happier & Healthier – Light & Wellness

M4: Designer’s Brushes – Lighting Fixtures

M5: Designer’s Canvas – Lighting Plans

M6: In the Zone – Controls

M7: The Industrial Complex

M8: Purchasing & Restocking

In contrast, the Level 2 curriculum is a live, hands-on Lighting Lab experience that will be hosted at a permanent location to be announced later this year.

ProSource is kicking off the program by hosting a virtual launch event to show members how to get started and is offering complimentary access through Sept. 30.
