Furniture Retailers: Don’t Let Perfection Get in the Way of Good

By Seth Weisblatt, AVB|BrandSource

Retailing today is hard! Whether you are a billion-dollar retailer or the family business on Main Street, the rules of retail have changed, and business owners must be aware of the changing tides and constantly evaluate the conditions.

For example, how good is your website?  Is it perfect?  Show me a website that is perfect, and I’ll be happy to present you with a unicorn at our next meeting. Perfection does not exist – especially in online presence.

The major factor is: Are you aware of what needs to be changed?

AVB Marketing websites have come a long way in the three years since bringing the effort in-house. In fact, we now manage over 600 websites and growing every day. The effort BrandSource is expending in the pursuit of perfection is on a scale that simply cannot be matched by individual independent retailers today.

Instead, we retailers should be focusing on what we do best: helping the customer. We solve problems.  We create solutions better than our competitors. We are in the local community, helping out neighbors and our friends. Regardless of your online strategy, if you can excel at what you do best, you will reap a greater reward than the pursuit of perfection in a business environment that is not familiar or your natural surroundings.

Retailers know that the customer is the goal. There are fancy buzzwords like omnichannel, direct-to-consumer, social media, and more, but what the real focus of these strategies and our approach is about is the customer. Keeping the customer the center of your focus will keep you grounded and help you make smart decisions about where to invest your time, effort and energy.

Customer shopping behaviors have changed; how has your business changed? Talk to us at AVB Marketing – we’re staying ahead of the trends to help you do what you do best: sell product!
