Schomackers is typically the last stop on its town’s annual Main Street Wine Walk, and participants tend to “stick around” to sample the wares, CFO Joe Schomacker said.
Each year the Main Street businesses in Luverne, Minn., sponsor a Wine Walk. During the event, participants purchase a glass with which to sample the various varietals and to partake in exclusive sales at each of the local stores.
Schomackers, a 10-year-old appliance, flooring, mattress and full-service cleaning business founded by Randy and Sharon Schomacker, is typically the last stop on the wine walk, explained son Joe. “People stick around to sample a wine and a mattress, or eat some chocolate while building their dream kitchen,” he said.
Joe, a senior partner in the family business and its Chief Financial Officer, was responsible for expanding the initial janitorial operation into home products, beginning with GE, LG and Speed Queen appliances and later adding Sealy Posturepedic mattresses to the mix. When he’s not tending to the appliance, flooring and sleep galleries within their three-year-old showroom, or developing print, radio and social media strategies for the BrandSource dealer, the 23-year-old is serving on the Minnesota legislature as a state representative.
Proceeds from the Wine Walk go to Luverne’s Downtown Plaza project to bring a community green space – and increased commerce – to Main Street.
