If Knowledge is Power, Then the 2019 BrandSource Convention Reigned Supreme

By Alan Wolf

The accent was on learning at BrandSource’s 2019 Convention & Expo, where members boned up on everything from sales training and leather repair to the impact of 5G and pin-posting on Pinterest.

One of the highlights of the Convention’s educational program was a digital marketing roundtable led by AVB’s Chief Marketing Officer John White. Joining him on stage for a robust exchange was a distinguished panel of experts that included:

  • Mary Putnam, VP of Marketing & Brand at GE Appliances;
  • Patrick Tam, a Strategic Partner Manager at Google;
  • Pinterest authority Nathan Engels, creator of WeUseCoupons.com and WannaBite.com; and
  • Instagram expert Allison Chaney, Chief Digital Training Officer at Boot Camp Digital.

White returned later that day with a primer on 5G networks and the impact that the blindingly fast mobile technology will have on almost every aspect of our businesses and lives. Also doing double duty were marketing panelists Engels and Chaney, who conducted back-to-back sessions on ways to leverage Pinterest and Instagram for maximum engagement.

The trio joined a full roster of Convention seminar speakers including Wells Fargo’s Alicia Zich, on assessing the financial health of members’ businesses; Serta Simmons Bedding’s Bob Muenkel, on closing the sale; retail expert Jon Schallert, on turning your business into a consumer destination; Dr. Mike Petersen, president of The Furniture Training Company, on ways to improve the customer experience; and AVB Marketing’s own Laura Dake, who took members on a deep dive into LINQ, BrandSource’s online merchandising tool.

The learning continued with BrandSource’s second annual Heavy Hitters Academy, a specialized program for members’ hand-selected sales staffers that includes product training, specialized educational sessions, networking opportunities and an awards ceremony.

And if that wasn’t enough, attendees also participated in a Furniture Town Hall; sat in on a Young Professionals education session; attended a slew of AVB Marketing e-commerce and digital marketing workshops; and learned what’s new and notable in appliances and bedding with an array of manufacturer product trainings and new product introductions.
