A fiftieth anniversary is always a major milestone, but for an independent dealer group, reaching the half-century mark assumes even greater significance in today’s rapidly changing marketplace.
That’s why BrandSource and event sponsor Tempur Sealy went the extra mile at the 2019 Convention & Expo to mark the golden anniversary of our parent company AVB in grand style. A Saturday evening 50th Anniversary Celebration was held at the Glass Cactus, a popular nightspot at the Convention’s first-time Gaylord Texan venue, where members, vendors, staff and friends raised a glass or more to the success of AVB.
Befitting the group’s origin story – that of a handful of independent dealers who conceived AVB on a fishing boat – the nightclub overlooked the expansive Grapevine Lake. The waterfront served as the perfect backdrop to the festivities, which culminated in an offshore fireworks display set the music of Queen, including their eminently appropriate anthem, “We Are the Champions.”
Guests included longtime member and veteran BrandSource officer Mark Pardini of Pardini Appliance, who recalled his first Convention back in 1990. “There’s a huge difference between the Convention 29 years ago in Orlando and what we’re seeing today,” he told YourSourceNews. “Between the education, the amount of people in attendance and the suppliers that are here, it’s night and day. There’s no comparison.”
Jeff Griffith, principal of Radiolab, echoed the observation. “We have been blessed to be a member of BrandSource for almost 20 years,” he told the YSN cameras. “It has helped us tremendously [and] the growth of our group has been substantial. Since I’ve been a member we have risen to the top; we have great management; we have incredible member appreciation and understanding; and we have great vendor networking. So I’m real proud to be at this 50th anniversary event.”
It was a triple celebration for owners Grant and Nancy Evridge of Evridge, Inc., who officially rejoined BrandSource and marked their 45th wedding anniversary that day. The secret of their happiness? A working ranch, which helps them unwind after store hours, and a loving and accepting approach to life. “Everyone has problems,” Nancy said. “We don’t let it bother us.”
