The TV category has taken its lumps in recent years, but the advent of ultra-large screens, advanced display technologies, and a new turnkey program for BrandSource members means the time is ripe to jump in.
During the General Session at BrandSource’s 2019 Convention & Expo on Sunday, AVB CEO Jim Ristow reminded members that there’s money to be made in the TV business once again. That’s especially true within the margin-rich 75-inch and larger screen-size segment, which together with the latest display designs is expected to enjoy 40 percent growth next year, he said.
What’s more, the size and weight of these jumbo TVs – packaged in 4×6-foot boxes and weighing 120 pounds – makes delivery and installation service almost a necessity, Ristow noted. That plays into BrandSource dealers’ strengths and, together with cables and soundbars, provides an add-on sales opportunity to further boost profits.
To help ease members’ entry or re-entry into the category, BrandSource, in partnership with Samsung, ProSource and Expert Warehouse (EW), has developed a turnkey, three-SKU program of big-screen QLED TVs complete with Samsung training and marketing support and two- to three-day delivery from EW.
Ristow noted that Samsung controls 55 percent of the market in 75-inch and larger displays, making this specially-negotiated program a great opportunity to participate in TV’s revival and hitch a ride with an industry leader.
Other initiatives announced by Ristow at the General Session included LINQ4U, a new service to help digital-shy dealers merchandise their websites; the debut of AVB University, a comprehensive online training resource in partnership with Grant Cardone; and the launch of BrandSource’s own news and information platform, YourSourceNews.
The 2019 BrandSource Convention & Expo runs through Tuesday, August 27, at the Gaylord Texan in Dallas.
