Community Pulls Together to Help Flood Victims

By YSN Staff

With all the devastating flooding recently, Ken’s Appliance & America’s Mattress in Grand Island, Nebraska, stepped up. They used their team’s resources to help with the massive flooding that has affected the Midwest. The surrounding communities of Grand Island that Ken’s Appliance serves has been particularly hard hit. The flooding has been devastating and left thousands of people with damage, and in many cases, uninhabitable homes. Ken’s Appliance put out the call for donations on March 17. All totaled, 25,000 people engaged in their post calling for help and by March 22 they had 25 full pallets of goods to distribute.

“By Wednesday [March 20] we knew we had to seriously begin planning the logistics of getting all these supplies to those who needed it most,” said Meridith Turner, service manager for Ken’s Appliance. “Fortunately, executing deliveries throughout these communities is something we already do and do it very well. The staff all jumped on board immediately and quickly sorted, packed and loaded all the items. That is the power of a small business. We are nimble and can execute a mission like this perfectly. We didn’t need corporate approval – we just did it! I am really proud of the team here and the way they stepped up.”
